Nowruz Celebration 2017

The Iranian Federated Women’s Club/Payvand in partnership with the City of San Jose District 10Councilmember Johnny Khamis, has prepared a very special and intimate event for Friday, March 24, 2017, from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM at the San Jose City Hall Rotunda, which is located at 200 E. Santa Clara Street in San Jose.

This event will feature exquisite Persian cuisine specially prepared by uncle Rays, Special Persian Pastries and Cake prepared by La Patisserie bakery, Haftseen Table Setting by  Afsaneh Naderi, Artistic Flowers setting at the Art gallery by Lili Ghazian, Centerpieces by Rose Express Florist and Guests will be treated to view a special collection of Persian art gallery, as well live music and performances by Moein VivaFaranak Shahroozi, Sabiba, Haleh, Guest artist, Mohammad Nejad, MC, Nilou Nouri and many more local artists and groups. All of this will be to welcome and celebrate a bountiful and prosperous Persian New Year. A limited number of tickets will be available via our event page on www.tikkl.com/payvand/c/nowruz-2017, “Taste of Nowruz 2017.” Your support and attendance will help IFWC/Payvand continue forth with its commitment to our local communities by empowering women and promoting the Persian arts and culture through education, scholarships, and cultural experiences.

The Iranian Federated Women’s Club, in partnership with County Supervisor, Dave Cortese, is proud to present Charshanbeh Suri, The Festival of Fire. Consistent with Persian tradition, we will celebrate Charshanbeh Suri on the last Tuesday night of winter. Join us on March 14, 2017 from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM for a very special night of live music, Persian cuisine, and a charshanbeh Suri Puppet show. Guests of this special event will even have the opportunity to participate in the old Charshanbeh Suri tradition of jumping over fire, signifying the end of the 1395th Persian year and the arrival of Spring and Nowruz 1396.

This event is open and Free to the public.

2017 1st Annual Silicon Valley Iranian Film Festival

The Iranian Film Festival and the Iranian Federated Women’s Club (IFWC)/Payvand, cordially invite you, your family and friends to view some of the greatest works of modern Iranian Cinema in our 2017 Silicon Valley Iranian Film Festival, on Sunday, March 12, 2017, at the BlueLight Cinema theatre at 21275 Stevens Creek Boulevard in Cupertino, from 12:00 pm to 10:00 pm. Admission price for each screening is $12, and a day pass for all screenings is available for $55. This event includes the unique opportunity to hear Gohar Kheirandish speak about her experience working on Azar, Shahdokht, Parviz and Others immediately after the screening at 6:00 pm. 

The featured films for this year’s event are:

  • AtlanScreening with Ice Water, Showtime, 12 noon. Atlan is the story of Ali, a young Turkman horse trainer who plans on using the prize money from his award-winning horse Ilhan to pay for his wedding. But when unexpected problems arise, Ali needs to fight for Ilhan and for his own future. This film highlights the importance of horses in the life of Iranian Turkmen, where horse races are often highly significant social events. Cast includes Ali Bagheri.
  • Ice WaterScreening with Atlan, Showtime, 12 noon. This short film tells the story of an old man whose life is closely tied to an endlessly repeating cycle of collecting water from melting ice, and making ice from the collected water. Cast includes Jahangir Osmanpour and Chiako Khorshidi.
  • The Buffalo Showtime 2:00 pm. Tragedy strikes a couple, Shokufeh and Iman, when their plan to flee Iran is cut short by Iman’s accidental drowning in a lagoon. A diver called Bahram the Buffalo is assigned to find Iman’s body and a relationship begins to develop between him and Shokufeh. Cast includes Parviz Parastui, Soheila Golestani, Pantea Panahiha and Hooman Seyedi.
  • Oblivion Season Showtime, 4:00 pm. An ex-prostitute starts a new life by marrying her loved one but leaving the shadow of her dark past is not as easy as it seemed before. Suddenly she finds herself a prisoner and must earn her freedom by fighting fight back against a male-dominated society. Cast includes Sareh BayatAmin ZendeganiShahin Taslimi and Abbas Shoja.
  • Azar, Shahdokht, Parviz and Others Showtime, 6:00 pm. The wife of a famous actor takes on a role as his playmate in his latest movie. Neither of them expect all the attention she receives by the critics, and their marriage is damaged by her husband’s increasing jealousy. The wife leaves home, but when she returns their daughter, the couple faces some even more challenges. Cast includes Mehdi Fakhimzadeh, Gohar Kheirandish and Mani Haghighi.
  • The Sinners Showtime 8:00 pm. A tightly plotted Iranian film noir, The Sinners opens on the streets of Tehran, where a beautiful woman who developed an independent streak during seven years in the United States meets a violent end. Many people wished her dead—the young lover she spurned, the married boss she blackmailed, the human trafficker she knew too much about, her angry father who felt disrespected—but who could be sinner enough to kill this woman? Cast includes Faramarz GharibianHomayoun ErshadiRambod Javan and Shaghayegh Farahani.

 The Iranian Federated Women’s Club (IFWC)/Payvand are, with support from the City of Cupertino, is proud to present the Longest night (Winter Solstice) and the”Shab e Yalda” on Wednesday December 21, 2016 at Cupertino Community Hall, from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. in the evening. There will be nationally-acclaimed Persian musicians and artistic performers.

This event, commonly referred to as “Yalda,” or “Shab-e Yalda,” or “Zayeshmehr,” or “Shab-e Chelleh” is the Persian Winter Solstice celebration, which has been celebrated for more than 3,000 years. Yalda is celebrated on the Northern Hemispheres longest night of the year, which is the eve of Winter Solstice. Depending on the shift of the calendar, Yalda is celebrated on or around December 20thor 21st  each year. Yalda is the night of the birth of Mithra, a Persian angel of light and truth. Subject to seasonal drift, this day may sometimes fall on a day before or a day after the actual Winter Solstice. The festival of “YALDA” is celebrated by many groups of people in the Middle East, and Central and South Asia, but particularly by Persians or various Iranian peoples.

2015 SILICON VALLEY FALL MEHREGAN FESTIVAL

The Rotary Club of Cupertino, in partnership with the Iranian Federated Women’s Club (IFWC), will celebrate the arrival of fall with Mehregan, the Persian Fall Festival, on Saturday, September 12, 2015, at Memorial Park, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The event is free to the public with live Persian music, activities for the kids, Persian arts and cultural displays and food. Mehregan, an ancient festival of Persian origin, has been celebrated since 6th century BC to welcome the first day of fall.

We invite you for a wonderful day of history, food, entertainment and honored guests.

Enjoy free live music with featured performances by so many talented artists from Many countries.

Persian musician, Fared Shafinury will be appearing to help celebrate Mehregan. A critically acclaimed and award winning musician, Fared Shafinury studied under master musicians in Iran and incorporates the classical and folk sounds of Iran to the music of the world. Fared will be performing from 4:30 pm till 6:00 pm.

Visit the Persian Cultural booth to learn and enjoy and gain new insights into the Persian culture, arts, music and food. This year, the IFWC takes pride to announce that the wonderful Farrah Yassini, the fabulous Wedding and Event Designer of Sofreh aghd Sofreh Aghd Flowers Farzaneh will be designing the Persian Cultural Booth.

Baba Kabob (Persian food truck) will be at the festival from 11:00 am till 3:00 pm.
