TUESDAY, MARCH 14, 2017 JIM MCENTEE PLAZA, SAN JOSE
February 5, 2017-Cupertino, CA – The Iranian Federated Women’s Club (IFWC), in partnership with County Supervisor, Dave Cortese, is proud to present Charshanbeh Suri, The Festival of Fire, on Tuesday March 14, at Jim McEntee Plaza at 70 Hedding Avenue in San Jose, from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm. Chaharshanbeh Suri, which literally means Red Wednesday, is an ancient Persian festival dating back 4000 years. Guests of this special event will have the opportunity to participate in the traditional Chardhanbeh Suri activity of jumping over fire, signifying the end of the 1395th Persian year, and the arrival of Spring and Nowruz (New Year) 1396.
LIVE MUSICAL AND DANCE PERFORMANCES
Popular Persian Musicians Dj Shahin, and Frank Shahroozi will each offer a special live performance of contemporary Persian music. This event also features highly acclaimed belly dancer Sabiba, who will be showcasing her creative choreography in a high energy yet graceful dance performance.
The IFWC is proud to announce that Red Rose Catering will be providing food for this event, allowing attendees to sample some of the finest samples of Persian Cuisine in the Bay Area. Haftseen traditional table settings and flowers are provided by Afsaneh Naderi.
Visit the mini-bazaar to enjoy both traditional and contemporary art from many well-known Bay Area artists. A limited number of artist booths are still available. For more information, contact the IFWC.
Children will enjoy face painting and stories about the Charshanbeh Suri celebration told in both Persian and English by professional children’s entertainer Roberta (Dottie) Navarro.
